June 24: Kelly TM Kilmer: Authenticity: Finding Your Voice Through Art Journaling
Have you always been intrigued by art journaling but unsure of where to begin or what to do? Or perhaps you're an avid journaler in need of inspiration or just want to spend a day in the company of wonderful women creating...
I am so over-the-moon excited that Kelly Kilmer was able to fit The Collage Cafe into her cross-country teaching and travel plans. She will be teaching one of the very first workshops in the new space!
I invite you to join us for an amazing art journaling experience where we will not only learn to make our own hand-made journal, but will learn a variety of techniques for filling the pages, led by well-known teacher and artist Kelly Kilmer. Her work has appeared in multiple publications including Art Journaling, Somerset Studio, Cloth Paper Scissors and more!
Here is how Kelly describes her approach:
Art journaling is about discovery and self expression. Your journal is your safe place to explore, express and experiment. It's your place to get lost as you repeatedly find yourself between the layers of paper, paint and pen.
In this unique workshop, you will learn new ways to approach your pages using paper, paint and pen. Learn how to push yourself out of your creative comfort zone. You will create cohesive pages that are completely unique to you.
Here are just some of the things that this class will cover:
-Making a Journal from scratch
-Techniques to layer paint and paper.
-Ways of putting colors together (there is no such thing as mud!)
-Ideas for adding line, shape and text.
-Journaling to express and experiment.
-Lettering tips and tricks.
-How to push past creative block.
-Where to find and glean ideas that you can translate to journal pages.
-How to find images and papers to suit your tastes.
and much, much more.
I am known for not traveling light. That means I will be bringing my favorite art supplies to share with you: acrylics, gel medium, stencils, pens, markers, rubber stamps, ink pads and some collage material.
What you'll want to bring:
- Because this is such a personal experience, bring some of your own paper scraps, pictures, letters, quotes, ephemera, etc that hold special meaning for you. We will also have items you can use. Please think about reading this when choosing your images.
